SITE VISIT REPORT: GROUND FLOOR COLUMN REINFORCEMENT & SHUTTERING

I. Purpose of Visit:

To inspect the vertical reinforcement and installation of ground floor columns following the successful casting of the grade slab, ensuring structural compliance with the approved drawings and Fujairah Municipality standards.

II. Observations & Progress Status:

The project at Villa F-C2 has officially transitioned into the superstructure phase, with vertical elements now taking shape:

Column Progress: Work on the ground floor columns is actively ongoing. Currently, 3 to 4 columns have been fully reinforced, while the remaining columns are in various stages of steel tying.
Reinforcement Inspection (Overlap): A critical check was conducted on the lap length (overlap) of the column starter bars. The overlaps meet the structural requirement (50D (diameter of the bar)} or as specified), ensuring effective load transfer from the columns to the substructure.
Stirrup Spacing: The spacing of the stirrups (links) was verified. I confirmed that the confinement zones (top and bottom of the column) have closer spacing as per the seismic and structural design to provide necessary ductility.
Vertical Alignment: Preliminary checks on the verticality (plumb) of the completed column shutters show they are within the permissible tolerance limits.

III. Directives & Next Steps:

Completion of Remaining Columns: Expedite the steel tying for the remaining columns to ensure a continuous casting schedule and avoid “cold joints” in the workflow.
Cover Blocks: I have instructed the foreman to ensure that concrete cover blocks (minimum 40mm) are securely attached to the reinforcement to prevent the steel from touching the shuttering, which would lead to future corrosion.
Cleaning: Ensure the base of the column shutters is thoroughly cleaned of sawdust and debris using an air blower before pouring concrete.
Casting Coordination: Schedule the concrete pour for the completed columns once the final verticality and bracing check is signed off.

IV. Concluding Remarks:

Villa F-C2 is moving smoothly into the vertical construction phase. The column reinforcement and stirrup spacing are being executed with high precision. By maintaining strict supervision over the remaining columns and ensuring proper concrete cover, we are building a robust structural frame for the ground floor.For previous report, click here.
